The State of Our Union, From "Pass-over" Country.
Ladies and Gentlemen, esteemed comrades, loyal readers.
I come to you this day to speak on the State of Our Union. And it ain't pretty. After confronting the potentially disastrous "Day Without Illegal Mexican Alien Workers," and the Annual Abu-Grab-Ass day, I can safely say that America has moved on and at the very least we are maintaining the "same ole same ole."
But as the founding fathers taught us, when government is concerned, there is no such thing as a static government.
With that in mind, I present MY State of Our Union Address. In part one, we'll discuss THE hot-button issue of the day, Illegal Immigration.
The issues that face this nation are many, and while most of them are complex and would require hard work and hard choices to fix, many of them are also simple and easy to fix, but require someone with a set of Spaldings to get out there and do what is right as opposed to what is politically expedient.
Take for example the hideous ILLEGAL ALIEN situation in this country today. Yes, I said ILLEGAL ALIEN because a) these people are breaking the law everyday that they remain in this country and b) you're not an immigrant until you enter the country legally and abide by the rule of law.
Today we're assaulted by our political leaders with "politically correct double talk" regarding this insidious issue. We're told that they are "migrant workers," "undocumented workers," and "hard working people just looking for a better life." The Double Talkers, both on the Left and the Right, are trying to "redefine" the issue. They hope to soften your opposition to these criminals by changing the terms of the debate. But no matter how we define the problem, it doesn't go away and every day that we fail to act causes the problem to get even worse.
Illegal immigration is a huge problem that is costing the U.S. Taxpayer BILLIONS of dollars every year in medical costs, welfare spending, other forms of government assistance and education for the children of these criminals.
The politicians KNOW that you're mad as hell about people sneaking into this country and taking advantage of the systems we have in place for our citizens, but they lack the testicular fortitude to make a stand for fear of alienating the "Hispanic vote." They don't look at this problem as all that much of a problem at all, but rather as a potential 3% to 5% swing vote that they can tap by simply pandering to them or by making them all citizens.
The Left knows this, and they are involved in the organization and planning of these rallies we've been seeing out there in recent weeks. The Right knows this and they have been trying to get out in front of the issue by telling the illegal aliens out there that "we like you too and we want you to be legal and vote for us."
The Republicans are standing on THIN ICE as it is right now with the approval ratings of both Bush and Congress being in the tank, but the ice is even thinner on this debate. The Demo-commies are out there promising "democratic socialism" and in some extreme cases, selling themselves as supportive of the Reconquista and the proposed Nation of Aztlan. What is it that the Republicans are offering? Well, they like them and want them to work. If you're a desperate poor Mexican which are you going to choose?
But what's missing is that the politicians are are pandering to what would equal a 3% to 5% voting block and ignoring the VAST MAJORITY of the voters out there who are up in arms over this issue. In fact, it now seems that the government is working against the citizens who have taken border patrol on themselves since the federal government won't do it for them. The Minute Men are being informed on by someone in the Border Patrol, allowing the Mexican government to know when and where the Minute Men are setting up camps to watch the border.
UPDATE: The Border Patrol is admitting to informing the Mexican Government of the location of Minutemen Patrols! (Video thanks to Hot Air! More Info from Hot Air!) They are claiming that the Mexican Consulate is interrogating illegals caught by the border patrol and reporting "abuse" and that thus, by treaty with Mexico, they are required to tell the Mexican government where the "abusers" are located.
There are many things that we can do to make this problem go away, but will anyone take the "risk" of alienating the Hispanic vote or the "potential Hispanic vote?" Here are some really simple, real-world solutions to the Illegal Immigration problem:
Step One: Seal off the Border NOW!
The first step in solving the illegal immigration problem is probably the one with the greatest opposition, and that is to seal off the border. We cannot fix ANY of our other problems until we stop the flow of up to 1 MILLION people a year into this nation. We can work out the details of a Guest Worker Program, and everything else out later. But if you don't plug the holes in the dam, then no matter what you do just results in more water getting through. Not only that, but sealing off the border helps to solve some other problems as well.
Seal up the border and you force not only illegal immigrants to find other ways to try and enter the country, but you do the same thing for the drug traffickers. You can do more to end the "War on Drugs" with a layered security fence than we have by spending the BILLIONS and BILLIONS of dollars we've dedicated to this so-called war.
We MUST put up a WALL in the HIGH TRAFFIC areas, a security FENCE in the outskirts of the high traffic areas and then funnel any illegal immigrants who make it around these areas right into National Guard Bases set up to fill the gaps. We CAN build a wall along the entire border without harming the environment or causing any massive problems for ANYONE other than the illegals and drug traffickers. Hell, the ancient Chinese built the Great Wall of China without the technology that we have today and it worked for quite some time.
Now, I can hear you saying "But a wall makes us just like Germany and the Soviet Union!" Well, you couldn't be more wrong if your name was R.W. Wrongenstien (kudos to Penn Jillette on that one). The Berlin Wall was built by the Soviets to prevent people from escaping their tyrannical murderous regime. It was built with the expressed purpose of making the people within the walls slaves of the Soviet Communist Regime. Any wall that we built to keep criminals out of our nation is more the equivalent of the fencing you see put up around our schools, or even in your own backyard. It's there to keep people from trespassing on your property or to keep those who DO NOT BELONG out of a school campus.
We have a problem with people illegally entering our nation along a specific border and it just makes sense to seal it off.
Step Two: Begin Enforcing the Laws we Already Have!
That's right, we don't need new new laws or stronger laws. We need the Spaldings to enforce the laws we already have. Did you know that the Punishment for illegal immigration in this country is deportation? Wow! Who'da thunk it?
The problem that we have is that the Border Patrol and the INS are under MASSIVE political pressure NOT TO ENFORCE THE LAW! When the INS does sweeps and find illegals, the companies and farms affected by the sweeps call up their local politicians who in turn put pressure on the INS to stop enforcing the laws.
The point is that we have laws and penalties regarding the illegal employment of illegal aliens in this nation on the books right now and they are not being enforced. So the question becomes one of enforcement. No matter how many new laws and programs are passed in the coming months, who's going to enforce these laws and programs when they are not being allowed to enforce the ones we already have.
We can pass laws all day long, but if we don't or can't enforce them, then what's the point?
Step Three: End the "Anchor Baby" System.
Yes, the constitution says that anyone born in America is an American Citizen, but people are using this time honored document to "cheat" their way into citizenship.
We need to amend the 14th Amendment of the Constitution to reflect this scam. In the near future the law should be changed to read as follows (my edit is in red):
1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
Change this to:
1. All persons born to parents who are United States Citizens or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any citizen of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any citizen within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
How easy is that? The United States simply cannot absorb the constant flow of new citizens who come here illegally and squirt out a child who ends up being a citizen to parents who aren't citizens. NO CHILD should become a citizen of the United States of America by simply being born here. For a child to become a citizen, he or she should be born to citizens born in this country or to parents who are naturalized citizens of this country.
Step Four: Roll Back ALL Government Assistance to Illegal Immigrants!
This one is simple. Yes, a lot of people come to this country to work toward a better life for themselves and their families, but others come here to take advantage of a Welfare System that is out of control. So let's make it a little tougher for someone who's not only NOT a citizen of this country, but is also a CRIMINAL by definition by weening them from the Government Teat!
Repeal all laws REQUIRING anything more than EMERGENCY services to illegal immigrants at hospital emergency rooms.
This simple act could be accomplished with the stroke of a pen. Changing the laws that require a Hospital Emergency room to care for anyone who walks through the door, regardless of ability to pay, insurance coverage or legal citizenship status would go a LONG way to not only slow the closings of Emergency Rooms that are going under thanks to MILLIONS of illegals using them and not paying the bill.
If you can't pay or don't have insurance, but you can prove you are a citizen of this country, then you get the care you need. If you can't prove citizenship, then unless you're in mortal danger or actually in need of emergency services, then sorry, no meds for you.
And no, I don't mean emergency situations. Anyone who shows up with an ax in their skulls or being brought in after a traffic accident should be cared for, but those illegals who show up at emergency rooms and demand treatment for their colds, minor cuts or burns, and things that they should otherwise be going to a personal physician to get taken care of should be cut out immediately.
Immediately require ALL welfare recipients to prove legal citizenship status or face ALL government assistance being cut off.
These people are not citizens of this country and thus DO NOT DESERVE any of the services provided by the government thanks to the tax money of the American Citizens. Why is it that these people are getting ANY government assistance for anything? They aren't even Americans. And yet, close to 40% of illegal immigrants are collecting welfare on one level or another...
No more government schooling for any child that cannot prove citizenship in the United States of America, and no more "Bi-lingual" schools.
English is the official language of free commerce on this planet. Like it or not, it's the one language that everyone who succeeds in business and trade pretty much has to learn, so why are we handi-capping students with Bi-lingual studies?
Students in this country should have special classes where they are taught English and moved into English speaking classes after they pass. We shouldn't be teaching anything in this nation in Spanish other than teaching Spanish as a language.
Then we need to simply say that you can't be enrolled in ANY school in the United States unless you are a legal citizen of this nation. We provide education to our CITIZENS via money paid into the government by legal citizens of this nation. We don't need to be teaching everyone Else's children when we are doing such a bad job of teaching our own.
Begin actually deporting ANY illegal immigrant who currently resides in one of our many correctional facilities.
Why are we keeping convicted criminal aliens in our jails? Why are we footing the bill for the criminals of Mexico? Last time the numbers were released, something like a full 1/3rd of the prison population is NON CITIZENS! If we have them locked up and we know they are illegal, THEN WHY ARE THEY STILL HERE? Is it not the law that illegal immigrant criminals are required to be deported?
Start Enforcing the Penalties for Illegal Hiring Practices on Businesses
Start hammering these companies that hire illegal immigrants with huge fines and jail time for the CEOs and Upper Management of the businesses and people will slow down on hiring an illegal immigrant to do a job.
It's simple really, Businesses have learned, as the illegals have, that there is little or no bite in the government's enforcement of immigration and employment laws. So if it's cheaper and easier to hire an illegal and you know that the government is going to do little or nothing to stop you, then you're going to hire the lower paid worker and not worry about the proper paperwork or the proper tax collection.
Stop the employers and the "employees" will have no where to work.
Reform Welfare even more.
We currently have 4.7% unemployment or about 7.1 Million people not working. Those who CANNOT work and need assistance should be getting it (think the disabled, the retired, etc.). Those who can work and are working but still need assistance should receive it (think single mothers, etc.), but everyone else should be forces to provide some form of service to the local communities in which they live if they are going to be on the government dole.
Lets say Jimbo Bob David is able to work, but simply is too lazy to get and keep a job. Once he signs up for government assistance, he should be given a physical and a determination made as to whether or not he is able to work. If he is, he can be on welfare and will receive a check equal to the number of hours of community service he provides at minimum wage. The recipient would have the option to take any other number of jobs on the market that might even pay more than minimum wage, join the Job Corps, enter into education programs to gain a skill or trade, get a GED or get into college.
If you don't work, then no welfare. If you take the "free ride" aspect away from the Welfare State, they will go out and get some of these jobs that the Illegals are doing.
Step Five: Deportation on the Small Scale
When the pols on the left and the right come out and say that deporting 13 Million illegal immigrants isn't possible and that we must find a way to make these people all legal citizens, they are being dishonest at worst or ignorant at best.
No one wants to round everyone up on day one and put them all on planes to Mexico.
What we want is that those who are caught on a daily basis are sent packing instead of getting a "notice" to appear in court which SELDOM EVER HAPPENS. What we want is for those who are caught are sent back to Mexico instead of being trucked to the local Bus Stop so they can go about their merry ways. What we want is for those rounded up in sweeps like we've had since the infamous "Day Without Illegal Alien Workers" to be sent back to Mexico instead of being released on bail and sent back into the work force.
The politicians KNOW that if they paint a picture of "mass deportation" of illegals as being a massive and impossible undertaking, you will soften to the ideas of finding a way to fast track these criminals into citizenship. But no one expects our federal government to actually be able to round up 13 million people in a week or in a month or a year... Just start deporting those we catch and eventually you're going to be down to a manageable number to deal with.
It's that easy folks.
Instead we get talk of a Guest worker program with a sliding scale of "legalization" for criminals who have violated our national sovereignty... Who really thinks that an Illegal Immigrant who "reports" to become a citizen and pay his back taxes, and fines is going to be honest about his status and time here?
The McCain/Kennedy bill says that anyone who's been here for less than a few years has to go back home to Mexico to "wait their turn" for citizenship, but those who have been here longer get to stay. Who really thinks these people are going line up and say "Yeah, I've been here less than two years?" The answer is NONE OF THEM WILL, YOU IDIOTS!
Of course they'll say they've been here for however many years lets them stay and that they've only worked at odd jobs and never really made any money so they don't own any substantial back taxes... Yadda yadda yadda.
The Bill says a lot of things that sound good, but are not even possible to enforce. Never mind the fact that they are pressing what is basically an Amnesty bill for those who have violated our laws without sealing off the border. Since all this talk started, border crossings are up because people KNOW they can lie to the government and say they've been here all along, so long as they can get into the country. If this bill passes, illegal immigration will DOUBLE over night.
President Bush has a major announcement coming up this Monday, and if it's anything short of setting the guest worker and amnesty programs on the back burner, militarizing the border immediately, building a wall/fence along the border, and freeing the Border Patrol and INS and ICE from political pressure which prevents them from rounding up these criminals, then Bush is no better than McCain, or Kennedy... And he's done in my book.
